That's a build of CVS gas from this morning (using CVS GCC31), stripped
and compressed: about 350k download. It failed four items in make
check-gas but I don't follow the right mailing lists so I don't know if
that's expected or not. Appears to work here.

Uncompress, chmod executable and install as
<prefix>/sparc-sun-solaris2.8/bin/as. You probably also want to
hard-link it to <prefix>/bin/as.
