GCC Istallation

Sirs,

I installed gcc-3.0.3 on a SGI Octane running IRIX 6.5.
No errors from make and make install.

Configuring any other installation however, eg. PLIP results in:

checking whether the C++ compiler (CC ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C++ compiler cannot
create executables.

What can I do?
