Force C++ symbol names

Is it possible to force the names of the symbols that c++ creates? When I
name a function something, c++ adds extra characters to the name so that
overloaded functions are supported - is there a way to either force c++ to
create a specific symbol in the source-code, or is there a command line
utility that I can use to rename a symbol?
