ld does nit find libs anymore with gcc-3.0.1

Hello,
I compiled gcc-3.0.1 without any special flags or configuration tags on a
pc-i686-linux (Mandrake 8.0); the compilation and installation worked
without problems, but now the linker doesn't find its libraries anymore.
gcc specific ones are o.k., but when e.g. I configure kdeartwork-2.2, the
scripts fails finding the qt-libs. Nothing else was changed (ldconf
contains /usr/local/lib), and it used to work with the Mandrake-packages
gcc-xxx-2.96.xxx.rpm
Does anyone know where's the mistake?
