Help needed with shared library & symbol hiding

Hi,
Can any one please help me with a shared library question on gcc/linux-x86?

I'd like to know if gcc supports any mechanism[command-line options & such]
to hide the symbols [while building the shared library] selectively so that
other modules should not be able to link with the hidden symbols (eg. dlsym
to such symbols should fail).
