Help on installation

Hi all!
I need help! That's why gcc-help? :-)
Let me write you what's going on:
I use linux, red hat, and in the linux installation gcc came together, version
2.95.3. That´s ok, gcc works very well!
Bau last week, I tried to install SWIG, a wrapper producer (source code),
and it failed!!! That's the error message:

[root@cuba SWIG-1.3.9]# ./configure

checking whether the C compiler (gcc  ) is a cross-compiler... no

checking whether the C++ compiler (gcc  ) works... no
configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C++ compiler cannot
create executables.

So, I thought, and I still think, the error was with gcc. Then I would install
a newer version of gcc (3.0.1) the full package, because I thought: "The
entire package will have all functionalities of g++".
But when I tried to intall that one, it failed too!!! It takes about 1 hour
to produce the error message!!! I tried to "make bootstrap" to a native
compiler, but nothing... Then I tried to install only the g++ for 2.95.3
package, I "untarged" the package but nothing happened... What I have to
do to make the software SWIG works??? Please any help is welcome!!!
