It's not GCC, it's the linker.  The Solaris linker will complain when
creating shared-libraries out of non-PIC when given the option -ztext,
which GCC passes to it when asked to create a shared library unless
the -mimpure-text switch is given to GCC.  I.e., either use PIC
objects only, or use -mimpure-text.
