I'm not sure I could understand your problem. Is GCC emitting
incorrect assembly code for ABSD? What did you expect, and what did
you get?
Note that, when you access arg1 and arg2 as doubles, you're invoking
undefined behavior, violating assumptions made by GCC's alias
analyzer, that may cause it not to keep the assignments to a and b
before the uses in the inlined copy of ABSD.
