ld can't find library

Hi,

I try to compile a simple "hello world" program with PDFlib, but ld
complains about not finding the lib file.
My LIBS var in Makefile:

LIBS = -L/usr/lib -llibpdf

The libpdf.a, libpdf.la, libpdf.so and some links to the true library
libpdf.so.0.0.0 are there and /usr/lib is in ld.so.conf.

the compile line says:

g++ main.o -o main -m486 -L/usr/lib -llibpdf

the error message says:

/usr/i486-suse-linux/bin/ld: cannot find -llibpdf


What am I missing?
