Problem building GCC 3.0 on alphaev6-dec-osf5.0

This gives a hint to the cause of the problem.  It appears that the
just-built compiler is not working properly.  Have a look at CXX in
alphaev6-dec-osf5.0/config.cache and try to use it to compile some C++
program, and see how this fails, then report back.
