Use gcc3 before* *installation?

  I'd like to run a make of a few things using gcc 3.0 *before*
I install it to prove that I don't break anything anyone will
shout about - is this feasable?

  I've tried fiddling with GCC_EXEC_PREFIX and C_INCLUDE_PATH /
CPLUS_INCLUDE_PATH (setting them to dirs. in my build area), but
can't yet get g++ to work on a simple one-file .cc file!

  Any ideas?


  I also tried to make the testsuite (installed dejegnu esp. for
it), but it can't find an 'expects' - where does that come from?
