gcc with gnu ld on irix5.3

Hi,

I am trying to install gcc in irix5.3 with GNU as and GNU ld.  But if I try
to compile by gcc with GNU ld, there is error always like,

/usr/local/mips-sgi-irix5.3/bin/ld: unrecognized option `-_SYSTYPE_SVR4'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

If I move GNU ld to out of PATH, there is no error (gcc should be using
system ld).  I configured with --with-gnu-as and --with-gnu-ld.  What is the
problem?

versions are gcc-2.95.2 and binutils-2.9.1
