Errors while doing make

Hi all, 

Could somebody please tell me why I get the below
error messages when I do a make with GDB_FLAG='-g' 

{standard input}:15426: Warning: end of file in
string: inserted '"'

{standard input}:16451: Warning: .stabs: Missing comma


.......and lots more 
"{standard input}:8605: Error: undefined" 

messages ? But I don't get these errors if I don't use
the -g option. But I want to compile it using -g
option. So what should I do ? The gcc version is
gcc.97r1-9804b.mips64 

I will be thankful for any help in this matter.
