crt0.o not found when compiling

Hi all

i have a problem when compiling with gcc2.95.2 under cygwin 1.1.8:
i have an arm-elf targeted gcc (cygwin, binutils & gcc installed under win98 
following the instructions of source.redhat.com/ecos)

when
$arm-elf-gcc test.c -o test        (a basic program)
it says:
/tools/H-i686-pc-cygwin/arm-elf/bin/ld: cannot open crt0.o: No such
file or directory
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

Note that crt0.o is located in the directory where it seems to look for... 
(I cpoied it there). it is also in other dirs

Could anyone help me?
