gcc 20000828 and gas 2.10 don't work together on Solaris 2.7 ?

I do it regularly.  Have you configured GCC --with-gnu-as?  Was GNU as
already built and where GCC expected to find it when you configured
gcc, so that the tests in gcc/configure.in would detect it didn't
support -xarch=v9, and fallback to `-64 -Av9' (which is what should be
used with GNU as)?  In other words, did you follow the procedure of
the FAQ for GCC to find the right version of GNU as, as explained in
the GCC FAQ? :-)
