Problems building GCC, part 2

Reviewing my message, I realized I forgot to mention my system
configuration. I'm on a Pentium running Debian, though I'm trying to
compile this for a new filesystem without Debianized packages. Currently
installed, I have GCC 2.95.2 with shared libraries, and glibc6-dev
(2.1.95-1). I have make 3.79.1, ranlib 2.10.91, install 4.0z, and no
automake, autoconf, or autoanything.
