Building an archive

Hi,

Would anyone care to tell me the command line I should be using to build an
archive with ar and the linker command line to link this archive.

I'm using the mips-tx39-elf tools, and having problems linking with archives
that I have built. The linker just can't seem to resolve the symbols. I know
the symbols are there because I've extracted the files from the archive and
then checked the extracted objects with objdump.
