compiling 2.95

trying to compile 2.95 from 2.72 on solaris 2.6 get the following result

./configure
> Configuring for a sparc-sun-solaris2.6 host.
> Created "Makefile" in /tmp/gcc-2.95.2 using "mh-frag"
> /usr/ucb/cc:  language optional software package not installed
> *** The command 'cc -o conftest -g   conftest.c' failed.
> *** You must set the environment variable CC to a working compiler.

Any insights would help.
