alloca not defined when building gcc for Aix 4.3 on Rs6000

Hi, 
We have Aix 4.3 on a RS6000 machine. 
We configured the gcc without target and options.
Then when we typed "make 
bootstrap", we encountered a link error
ld: 0711-317 ERROR: Undefined symbol: 
.alloca
 

If anyone can give us assistance, we 
would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
