Can not build the gcc compiler and runtime libraries

We have Aix 4.3 on a RS6000 machine. 
We configured the gcc without target and options.
Then when we typed "make 
bootstrap", we encountered a link error concerning alloca.o file. The error 
says 
the symbol alloca is not defined. But 
it is present in /gcc directory.
 
If anyone can give us assistance, we 
would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
