64 bit gcc

Sir/Madam:

I'm looking to produce 64 bit executables.

Running Solaris 8 on Sun E3000. (Ultrasparc, Sun4u).

Have tried using the version of gcc Sun includes as a courtesy with the
Solaris distribution media.  I used -mcpu=ultrasparc and -m64, but didn't
work.

Is there a way to compile to 64 bit executables with gcc?
