NAN-Problems with G77/GCC

Hi,

I have installed
   g77 version 2.95.2 19991024 (release) (from FSF-g77 version 0.5.25 19991030
   (prerelease))
and
   gcc version 2.95.2 19991024 (release)
on PIII or/and Athlon processors (i386).

We are working (and developing) on a programm for numercial simulation.
Since SuSE has changed from the "old" gcc to the new "egcs" (and now gcc) we
have the following problem:
When I compile without any optimisation, the programm works fine (but ver very
slow). When I try to compile it with -O or -O2, I'll get a run-time error (NAN).

Because its very difficult (for me) to find the problem in the source code, I
want to find the optimisation parameter, which produces this error. How can I
find out, what exact -O2 (on my system) does?

Or any other hints, for finding the trap?

regards
