crt1.o help please

Can sombody please help us.We are trying to compile 
some software on a linux platform and when we type the "make" command we keep 
getting this error message- Directory:

-O saol_macro.c /usr/lib/crt1.o(.text+0x18): undefined reference to 
`main' /tmp/cckZBJZG.o: In function 
`macro_expand': /tmp/cckZBJZG.o(.text+0x37): undefined reference to 
`print_block' /tmp/cckZBJZG.o(.text+0x95): undefined reference to 
`remove_unused_symbols' /tmp/cckZBJZG.o(.text+0xb1): undefined reference 
to `print_block' /tmp/cckZBJZG.o(.text+0xc5): undefined reference to 
`dump_sym_table' What is crt1.o and why is it complaining.We tried re 
installing glibc ver 2.1 and this didnt help.Can anybody 
help?? Please.Please!!!!!!!
