Dear Developer,

Octopod for C++ is a first truly visual IDE for C++ supporting multiple
compilers. You can
download trial version from

http://www.octopod.net/down/octopod/setup20.zip

(4.9 Mb download)

New version of Octopod for C++ brings several features, not seen in
other IDEs. For example:

--- Compatibility with GNU GCC compiler ---

New Octopod fully supports GNU C++ compiler which comes as a part of
CYGWIN package. All features (except MFC) are tested and verified under
GNU compiler. This integration gives user a real alternative to the
existing MSVC compiler package

--- Compatibility with MFC projects ---

New version of Octopod filly supports MFC (Microsoft Foundation
Library). It will insert the necessary precompiled headers for MFC in
any project.

--- Importing of the existing work ---

New wizard, called ImportProject Wizard, enables users to import their
existing UI designs - in form of RES, RC and Visual Basic FRM file
formats. Octopod imports all elements (including ActiveX controls
present on the dialog/form) and preserves symbolic names during the
importing process.

--- New database engine supported - ADO ---

The emerging database component - ADO - is supported under Octopod. A
level of support is the same as for DAO - a complete wrapper around ADO
ActiveX component, new features (such as overloaded members called on
the recordset change) and the grid control for the tablular data
representation. Database Wizard also got the upgrade, so now it also
supports new library. As for all other features, GNU compiler supports
is tested and present, making this the first GNU ADO library on the
market.

--- Dual-interface ActiveX components ---

New Octopod knows how to import the dual-interface ActiveX component
using direct calls, without IDispatch. This gives the maximum
performance when using the ActiveX component. Althogh this feature is
known for the MSVC users (through #import directive), it is completely
new for the GNU GCC users. Template that is used to generate the code is
open to the modification and can be changed to suit any particular need.

--- Refinements to the user interface ---

User interface of the new Octopod has been redesigned to include better
UI navigation, more functions while preserving real estate for the major
components - code and form editor.

--- New wizards ---

This version of the Octopod comes with over 40 wizards helping you from
creating the new projects (Wizard Application wizard, Explorer Style
Application wizard), through creation of the new classes (WEB server
class, serial communication class), to event wizards that help you
create event handlers.

--- New features of Octopod library ---

The library got update also to support new look and feel of the modern
applications. Every child control now have events MouseIn and MouseOut,
making it possible to change the properties while the mouse is over the
control. New control, called GenericControl, has been added to the
library and to the designer and allows user to specify generic child
window as a control of the Octopod form.
