Picking both r15-7753-ge6037af6d5e5a4 and r16-7968-g27b4500ec3f97e doesn't
help.

On the 14 branch this issue doesn't reproduce, so in theory it might be
possible to bisect what fixed it if one can find a point on the (development)
branch where the backport fails.
