you do realise that this is **not** the macports issue-reporting system?

I think you need to report your problems there, so that you can iron out any
issues with your configuration.

GCC-16.1 (and for that matter current trunk) does not require anything more
than Xcode and GCC-10.5 to build.  Any additional constraints that macports
makes, need to be addressed in that context.
