Iain, to clarify the point: it is possible in principle that the identical
build would work on G5 when building for 32-bit ppc and under Rosetta but fail
specifically on G4? That is one thing which is not covered, I guess, by running
the build.

(You have confirmed that standard build (without *ports) works on 10.5 under
Rosetta, and I have confirmed that the build from my ppcports works on 10.6
under Rosetta and natively on G5.)
