I am still working on understanding this issue and I believe I have found a way
to reproduce the bug consistently: attempt to build GCC on a FreeBSD machine
where no GCC version is already installed.

If a GCC is already installed, then the build succeeds. But if no GCC is found,
then it will segfault.
