With mainline (i.e. with the change of comment 8) used for compiling
  sparsetests.cpp
(with options as in comment 3), it WORKS now FINE and I get three times the
same matrix output – of which the third is from running on the GPU (I see 5
kernels being started).

[I use RTX A1000 6GB Laptop with Driver Version: 580.95.05 & CUDA Version:
13.0.]

→ Thus, I cannot reproduce neither the issue of this PR, comment 0 [nor of PR
122280 on this system]. - Maybe I should try some other systems and see whether
it is there reproducible.
