Debian has version 12.2.0 that it installs.  Perhaps I need to backup and
checkout that version for a cross compiler?

Since this is an experimental project I'm working toward, I thought using the
"master" version might help in verifying the compilers operation for the
future.  I didn't see any reason to backup to a previous version instead of
figuring out what's wrong with my process.
