Also, the issue did not happen with 8.3.0 and the same binutils. An I also get
this assertion when building with i686-musl-linux cross-compiler, but
interestingly, when building a differnt package (gnutls). -ffresolution=%u.res
expansion is also wrong in that case, though I'm not sure it's what causes the
assertion failure.
