We can't close it at this point -- we haven't really fixed the core issue. 
David's patch was primarily to give more testing coverage for future work in
this space.  I believe we're currently relying on Jakub's hack patch from c#12
to keep glib2 happy.

If we're not going to address for gcc-7 we should probably change the target
milestone.
