Thanks for the quick reply. The system is a VM. I have the results of 'free'
below. The VMs where the build worked all have slightly more memory and swap.
What is the recommended minimum to build gcc-6?
$ free -h
              total        used        free      shared  buff/cache   available
Mem:           993M        239M        382M         10M        371M        564M
Swap:          1.0G        977M         47M
