Right, I should have mentioned that earlier.

That's somewhat reasonable (not the best obviously but if it's only
one source file in the entire project that's okay.)

I probably should have posted numbers earlier. For reference on my
machine:

> $ time gcc -std=gnu99 -c module.i
> 11.365 secs

> $ time gcc -std=gnu99 -O1 -c module.i
> 161.176 secs
