I see, if you ever will commit anything in the mainline please let me know (I
do like yet to work with patches in gcc :-).
I understand that you need to provide an "architectural neutral"
implementation.
I will try to code a sse4.2/avx solution using builtins (icc 12 do vectorize it
and at the moment it makes a big difference w.r.t. gcc 4.6)
