Someone kindly emailed me an older copy of "as", so I did something like:

# mv /usr/ccs/bin/as /usr/ccs/bin/as.nfg
# cp /tmp/as /usr/ccs/bin/as (where the older 'as' was in /tmp)

That has solved my problem. Of course it is not a perfect solution, but it does
at least allow me to compile files now.
