i686-apple-darwin9 appear to be fine.. (per the referenced pr41237).

unfortunately,  powerpc-apple-darwin8 is not...
Updated to revision 151426.

Comparing stages 2 and 3

bear in mind that darwin8 is the 'end of the road' for a bunch of PPC hardware
so it would be nice if this still worked.
