Can't we change it to

  if (!FRAME_GROWS_DOWNWARD)
    {  
      if (flag_stack_protect)
        {  
          warning (0, "-fstack-protector not supported for this target");
          flag_stack_protect = 0;
        }      
    }        

with a comment?
