Have you looked into what I have done?  Lets see my first big patch:

        * config/rs6000/rs6000.md (ffssi): Convert to expander.
        (ffsdi): Likewise.
        (cntlzw2, cntlzd2): New patterns.

I don't see how you can say I am not an expert at this.

Also one more thing did you read http://gcc.gnu.org/bugs.html which explains
exactly what we need for a bug report?

The reason why the bitfield patch has not go in yet, is because I am busy with
other work and it is a minor issue on my plate right now (have you looked into
what I have been doing lately?).

Also 4.3 is no where near being released in the next month or two so calm down.
 We can't all fix bugs in the same time as they are reported.
