Re. comment #24 -- I guess Devang didn't update fold_stmt and similar 
functions for the (still undocumented) modification to GIMPLE to make 
<MODIFY_EXPR <LHS> <COND_EXPR <COND> <RHS1> <RHS2>>> valid.
