Consider:

extern unsigned int strlen (const char *) __attribute__ ((__pure__));

void
foo (const char *str)
{
  unsigned int a = strlen (str);
  unsigned int b = strlen (str);
  if (a != b)
    link_error ();
}

FRE does not eliminate the second call to strlen.
