[Bug c/17557] New: wrong opcode for short jmp

when I use JMP to jump within 8 bytes (short jump?)e.g.
JMP offset_with_in_8
the gcc will translate the JMP opcode into 0xe9(long jmp) instead of 0xeb(short
jmp), and this causes the offset to expand to 4 bytes long on my machine.
I'm running Linux 2.6.8 on PentiumIII-M
