The code in question is, I believe, indeed illegal, because apparently 
parameter arrays cannot have a deferred shape.  (This is what Intel 8 
reports.)  Instead, the shape needs to be given explicitly. 
 
In view of this, the error message should be different, because it is 
confusing.  Parameter arrays can (and must) be initialised.
