In the PR, I indicated that the patches are OK for 3.4.x if they were 
approved for mainline.

If Andrew, Geoff, or yourself will backport the patches to 3.4.x, that 
will be fine for 3.4.1 -- or, if that doesn't happen in time, 3.4.2.
