[Bug AWT/16768] New: List doesn't respond to item events

Description of problem:
ItemEvents are no longer delivered to Lists.  See for example kaffe's
WidgetsDemo.  When you select a person, their details should show up
in the other components.  This was no doubt caused by the list peer
update, so I'll fix it.

1.run kaffe's WidgetsDemo
2.select a person in the list
