[Bug target/13926] GCC generates jumps that are too large to fit in word displacement field

Confirmed in GCC 3.3.2.  The compilation doesn't terminate with GCC 3.3.3pre and
3.4pre (at least before 20 minutes).  Not sure whether this has something to do
with --enable-checking...
