Confirmed. Actually the following are the only flags necessary: 
 
g/x> /home/bangerth/bin/gcc-3.5-pre/bin/gcc -fno-unit-at-a-time 
-fomit-frame-pointer -O3 -march=athlon-xp -c x.i  
x.i: In function `get_dentry':
