The patch did not apply cleanly to 3.4.1, but I made similar changes by hand. It
didn't fix the problem, i.e. sys remains NULL and the app segfaults.

I would try it on cvs version too, but gcc still seems to need patches for big
endian arm and I haven't had time to play with those.
