This bug is still present today (2004-04-08) in 3.3.4, 3.4.0, 3.5.0, and it
seems to have been fixed in new-regalloc-branch:

$ /usr/local/gcc-RA/bin/gcc -fnew-ra -O2 -S -fPIC 8479.c
