No progress.  I'm still waiting for Neil's answer to my question.

Personally, I'd go with:

- %{g*} %{O*} %{undef}";
+ %{g*:%{!g0:%{!fno-working-directory:-fworking-directory}}} %{O*} %{undef}";

Would you give it a try and formally propose it if it fixes the problem for you?
